Lo Stagnone Sycylia kitesurfing

Lo Stagnone – a kitesurfing enclave?

What sets LoStagnone apart? If you’re looking for a place to swim or learn to kitesurf you’ve probably checked out many different options in and around Europe.

We have the Polish Hel Peninsula, the Netherlands, Tarifa (Spain), Sardinia (Italy), Naxos (Portugal) or a few spots in Greece. So what makes Sicilian Lo Stagnone so different from the previously mentioned places?

Flights

There are direct flights to Sicily by low-cost airlines from as many as four Polish cities. We have direct flights to Trapani, an airport just 5 minutes by car from the spot from Warsaw and Katowice. Two flights per week from each city.

In addition, flights from Krakow and Wroclaw to Palermo, which is an hour’s drive from the Lo Stagnone spot.

The flight from Poland takes just 2.5 hours. This means that from any Polish city with connections you will get here faster than to Hel!

You can find information about flights here.

Shallow water

Lo Stagnone is a vast lagoon and on 70% of its surface we have water up to our waist at most. There are shallower places with water as deep as ankle deep, but most of the lagoon is knee to waist deep. This undoubtedly accelerates the progress of both advanced and beginner people incredibly. The shallow water provides an opportunity to quickly catch the board after a fall and continue trying.

A large number of nurseries

There are about 15 kitesurfing schools and equipment rentals here. Less than half of them are Polish schools. There are also a few Italian and some German. You can find a list of Polish kite schools here.

Wind conditions

Just because we have 300 windy days a year in Sicily doesn’t mean that when you arrive you’ll have 100% wind days. However, it is safe to say that you will always have at least 4 days of swimming during the season. Information on wind conditions in Sicily can be found here.

Modern accommodation close to the spot

Around the lagoon, more and more apartment buildings are being built each year for kitesurfers. At the same time, there are already quite a large number of them. Here you can easily find accommodation of good standard and reasonable price (about 20 – 25€ / night). All houses are either new or renovated. Each is equipped with air conditioning and most with a kitchen.

You’ll also find resorts with swimming pools, but you won’t see large hotel complexes, which gives the place an extra flair. I wrote more from the accommodations here.

Lots of interesting places in close proximity

Up to an hour’s drive from Lo Stagnone you have the beautiful Mount Erice and on top of it the beautiful town, Trapani which is a tourist destination full of life, hot springs, an ancient temple or hot springs. Nearby you will also find the beautiful Zingaro Nature Reserve and cliffs for jumping into the water.

In addition, 1.5h drive on the highway to Palermo. This is far too much for one week’s trip and one could list for a while.
